The Huggable Moose & Reindeer is a sewing pattern and tutorial to make soft stuffed animals. You can make the Huggable Moose or the Huggable Reindeer from the same set of instructions.
Of course I know that moose and reindeer are from different species, but they both belong to the deer family, and have some common features, such as a large nose, impressive antlers and skinny legs.
One big difference between a moose and a reindeer is their size. An adult moose can be as tall as 1.8 meters (6.5 ft) and weigh as much as 800 kg (1800 pounds)! In fact, the moose is the largest and heaviest species in the deer family. In comparison, a reindeer’s height is about two-thirds of a moose’s, and it weighs less than half that of a moose. So, if you would like to make a Huggable Moose and a Huggable Reindeer in proportional sizes, you can either enlarge one or reduce the other by varying the scale of their patterns when you print them!
If you are wondering where to find nice fabric for your huggable animals, perhaps the first place to look is in your closet! I made the brown moose and the red checked reindeer from my husband’s old shirts. Upcycled fabric is great because it is already soft from washing and use.
As you can see in the image above, the Huggable Moose / Reindeer set also comes with the pattern and sewing instructions for you to make an optional cowboy vest for your stuffed animal!
