Every year Muumade donates part of its proceeds to a non-governmental organization (NGO) which helps to protect our wildlife. This year, that donation was made to the globally active WWF! This donation would not have been possible without your purchases of Muumade’s animal sewing patterns & instructions. So THANK YOU for helping to protect our wildlife!
WWF is a NGO whose “mission is to conserve nature and reduce the most pressing threats to the diversity of life on Earth” (quoting their own words). Currently they are working actively in 100 countries, directing 51% of their expenditure to programs, 20% to fundraising, 14% to awareness & education, and 4% to their conservation policy (WWF’s Annual Review 2022, page 65).
In case you were wondering what “WWF” stands for, it is short for the World Wildlife Fund in the U.S. and Canada and the World Wide Fund for Nature in the rest of the world.
Examples of their accomplishments in 2023 include: WWF’s support to increase the population of wild tigers by 74% (compared to numbers in 2010); their collaboration with the U.S. Native Nations to restore bison to their native habitats; their contribution to the US-Peru debt-for-nature swap agreement to redirect finances to the conservation of the Amazon rainforest; and their fundraising efforts to support the Namibian government’s anti-poaching plan which protects the largest population of black rhinoceros on earth, to list only a few.

As a side note, if you happen to be looking for ways to encourage youngsters to become interested in environmental and wildlife issues, WWF’s symbolic species adoption program looks like a great option! It allows you to choose a wild animal species to “adopt”. In return, you receive an adoption kit, which includes a soft plush version of the chosen species, an adoption certificate, a color photo of that animal with interesting facts and a personalized acknowledgement letter!
